Israel Connect's sold-out Ethiopian Israeli night, held on Monday 6th October.
In one of their most unique events, the ZF's Israel Connect group for young professionals organised a sold-out cultural evening at the Queen of Sheba restaurant on Fortress Road in Kentish Town featuring authentic Ethiopian vegetarian food and a talk by two Ethiopian Jewish visitors from Israel. Yaniv Jamber was born in Israel to Ethiopian parents who arrived in the country in 1971 and 1977, well before the large waves of Ethiopian immigration that began with Operation Moses in 1984, thus he was the only black child in his school class. Yonit Tafete was born in Ethiopia in 1981 and came to Israel in 1985 in Operation Moses after her mother and two sisters walked for five months from their northern Ethiopian village to a refugee camp in the Sudan. Both Yaniv and Yonit are now university students at the Interdisciplinary Centre (IDC) in Herzliya.
